Will Learning To Detox Your Body Enhance Your Health

I’ve been fortunate enough to enjoy good health for pretty much all my life. I don’t get ill, and don’t recall even having any kind of cold of virus – at least nothing that struck for longer than a few hours. So it came as a bit of a surprise when I started feeling run down and tired all the time, and struggling to find the energy to even get out of bed in the morning. I’d been to see the doctor on many occasions, and had undergone several test, but each one showed that there was nothing medically wrong with me.

I finally went to see an alternative health therapist one day who advised me that I needed to detox my body, and put some effort into learning how to detox your body and see how toxins accumulate in my body and impact my wellbeing and energy levels. It seemed a lot of people had a lot of good things to say about it, so I spent a few weeks doing some research to learn all about it, and why so many alternative and complementary health practitioners advocate detox diets and suggest getting started with the 7 day detox diet so avidly.

She also hinted to me to try a relaxing foot detox. I have a foot spa two or three times a week now, if I have the time, but if you don’t have one of those, the detox foot patches can work just as well – although your don’t get the relaxing foot massage at the same time

Here’s what I learnt to detox your body.

Make sure you drink plenty of water

One of the most important things you need to is drink lots of water while you are following a detox diet because it will help purge excessive toxins from your body. There’s lots of other health reasons to drink water as it helps prevent constipation, improves concentration, and hydrates your skin which improves your skin tone. Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water each day (about 2 liters), and more when you exercise.

As a rough guide, increase your water intake by about half a liter for each hour of exercise. The healthiest type of water is filtered tap water. Keep your water at room temperature as it’s more refreshing that way. If the thought of drinking that much water is overbearing, try herbal teas as well – preferably loose leaf rather than tea bags. Green tea, horsetail, camomile and roibosch (or redbush) are especially great in a detox as their essential oils assist in the detox process. Roibosch (Redbush) tea is especially healthy as it is rich in antioxidants.

Should You Go Organic

When detoxing, there’s no need to go completely organic, because organic is usually much more expensive, but a little organic produce will go a long way to getting you started.

Don’t panic if you can’t find organic foods in your area. All you need to worry about is eating enough fresh foods – even if they are non-organic – instead of eating too few of them. Having said that, there are some very beneficial health reasons of eating organic food on a healthy detox diet.

Organic foods are free from artificial pesticides and sprays, so they have very little or no potentially toxic man made chemicals. Organic farming is a hotly debated and controversial topic because there is growing evidence that the build up of these pesticides are linked to some of the serious health conditions of today.

Organic foods undergo minimal processing. The big benefits of this are that they have no genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and free from artificial preservatives. On top of that, organic foods usually taste better too.
